General description of the collection: The Vernon Walters photograph collection consists of 685 photos. There is an album of his WWII photos. Other albums cover some views in Vietnam; a conference on firefighting in Berlin, Germany in 1989; and color snap-shot travel photos in Europe and Asia, circa 1995. The strength of this collection is the coverage of prominent political personalities in the U.S. and around the world. There are many photos autographed to him as well as many photos picturing him with numerous presidents and world leaders between 1945 and the 1990s. Particularly strong are photos in the administrations of Eisenhower, Nixon, Reagan, and George H.W. Bush.

Vernon Walters was an officer on the staff of General Dwight D. Eisenhower during World War II. He remained with him through his presidency and continued to be a player in every administration from Harry Truman's through Bill Clinton's.
